The Matrix Noosa Pirates showed character when they came from behind to win a thriller against Caboolture at Pirate Park last Sunday by 31-24.
The Pirates, minus eight regular A Grade players, showed their supporters there is plenty of depth in the ranks.
Moses Mbye was first to score in the second minute of play after some great lead-up work by hooker Steve Rameka.
After some fine backline movement, Shah Rodgers scored in the corner. The Pirates were up 12-nil but the Snakes clawed back to lead 18-12 at the break.
After the break the Snakes extended their lead by 24-12.
With 12 minutes remaining Curtly Hope-Hodgetts found a gap to score close to the posts. Confidence and momentum shifted to the Pirates and a break by second rower Corey Dietrich saw Moses Mbye score under the posts to have the scores level 24-all with five minutes remaining.
Play maker Sean Pickup potted a field goal with two minutes remaining to give the Pirates a handy one-point lead. The Pirates were not done just yet and young Mitchell Melmeth scored to give the Pirates a thrilling come- from-behind victory.
