Cooroy Eumundi Cricket is facing up to the coming season with a new strike weapon – not a flipper or doosra, but a Kobi that has the makings of an all-round asset.

As in new club coach Kobi Griggs. Kobi is a member of the Sunshine Coast Scorchers’ first division side and thanks to local sponsors like IGA he has been recruited to ensure junior cricketers around Cooroy have access to top-line development.

Kobi is a product of the Nambour cricket scene which continues to build strong ties with the Cooroy club as a pathway to those aspiring to a first grade pathway.

“Kobi was a permanent fixture in representative sides through his junior cricket days,” said a club spokesman.

“Kobi has enormous talent and last season emerged as a true all-rounder by taking some good wickets with the ball.”

He was a member of the U16A junior premiership side at Nambour coached by Cooroy’s junior co-ordinator Greg Davis.

Greg is delighted Kobi has signed on.

“We promote cricket as a team sport and provide opportunities for all juniors to enjoy cricket without the winning-at-all-costs scenario,” Greg said.

New club president Ian Mackie supports this sporting ethos.

“Kobi will strengthen the knowledge base of all our coaches with training to start on Wednesday afternoons from September 1.”

Players interested in a game should call Ian on 5447 0300 or Greg on 0423 034 541.
