Sue Kingston is the new water rates project officer for Noosa Ratepayers Association.
TONIGHT is a chance to discuss cases of Unitywater torture that many in Noosa have had to endure with the setting up of the new water supply entity.
The Good Shepherd Lutheran College is the venue for the community forum organised by the Noosa Residents and Ratepayers Association that will introduce the NRRA’s new water rates project officer Sue Kingston.
Ms Kingston, who has had her own issues as a consumer with the new company, is the ratepayers’ community representative on Unitywater’s customer and community reference group. But on Friday she stressed to the Noosa News that she sees her role as pointing out any positives that the new service provider can come up with – despite claims that State Government bulk water charges will ensure high water bills for years to come – as well as the negatives.
“In my experience I found I had to deal with constant circular communication loops, getting nowhere fast,” Ms Kingston said.
“I realised just how extra challenging this painful process would be for those who are not used to dealing with layers of bureaucracy or who may not have the advantage of computers and email technology.
“I have been willing to take this (link) role on in the hope that better communication links will help to ensure that our ratepayers receive the assistance they need and in a timely manner.”
Acting NRRA president Tony Haslam said ratepayers who had experienced an issue with their water rates billing could email their story to: waterrates@noosa ratepayers.org.au.
“If members do not have access to email, they can call me on 5449 8118 and I will pass the information on.”
The NRRA meeting starts at 5.45pm, with guest speaker Cr Russell Green, who will discuss a range of council issues including the council’s view on taking back control of water billing.
