All roads lead to the Sunshine Coast hinterland on 5 and 6 May as thousands of visitors converge on the Maleny Showgrounds for the 16th annual Maleny Wood Expo From Chainsaw to Fine Furniture. Lovers of timber and woodwork come from far and wide to soak up the wonderful world of wood. From chainsaws to fine furniture, the Maleny Wood Expo showcases our native timbers and explores sustainable use of timber resources through the work of the region's talented woodworkers. Meet and talk to the craftsmen and women who’ve created the amazing array of furniture to suit every taste and budget. From fine furniture to bbq settings, they produce an extraordinary range of furniture, sculptural pieces, artworks, and everything else that can be fashioned from timber. Watch the showgrounds come alive as the mobile mills fire up and the smell of fresh-cut sawdust brings Maleny's timber heritage into the 21st century. View the 2012 Wootha Prize Exhibition - a woodworking competition with a conscience and the 2012 theme of “One Door”. See lovingly crafted products by furniture-makers and toy-makers, musical instrument-makers and box-makers, whittlers, carvers and everything in between. Drop by The Wood Shed and join in a workshop – suitable for beginners and advanced. Randy DeGraw will run Gilding on Timber Workshops on Saturday and on Sunday you can join Richard Knight for Mortise and Tenon workshops. To book a spot visit http://www.malenywoodexpo.com.au - book now to avoid disappointment. Live action includes chainsaw carving and demonstrations by trade and woodworking tool experts. For younger visitors there are loads of free activities including face-painting, candle-making, merimba workshops and the ever-popular hay bale maze. The Wood Expo has entertainment for the whole family with eco-friendly products for home and garden, local produce and gourmet foods, environmental displays, great food, live roving music, street theatre and much more! And when you're ready for some time out - pull up a haybale and tuck into a burger at the Landcare BBQ, lush into a divine donut, or sample the taste delights on offer from Maleny’s other enterprising community groups. Or just sit back in the Maleny Music tent with a free trade coffee and let the kids run wild on the hay bale maze. Take home a slab to create your own masterpiece, some local native plants for your waterwise garden, or search the amazing array of wood items for that perfect mothers’ day gift. The Expo guarantees a relaxed enjoyable day for everyone in the beautiful atmosphere of Maleny’s green hills. We'll make sure that everyone - from small children to grandparents - has a day to remember at the 2012 Maleny Wood Expo.
