$200,000 worth of antiques on sale in massive auction
ARE you in the market for some high-end antiques?
Or are you just an avid viewer of the Antiques Roadshow?
You're in luck because antiques with an estimated value of $200,000 will go under the hammer on the Sunshine Coast today.
The collection totalling 503 items, belongs to a German couple who brought 11 containers full of antiques with them when they moved to Australia 36 years ago.
Now they want to downsize and auctioneer Shane Pfeffer says he will be selling off some unique pieces.
"The most outstanding piece available is definitely a massive bar that they also bought over with them," he said.
He estimates that piece alone could be worth more than $50,000.
But the auctioneer is under strict instructions to sell everything, so the extraordinary pieces will be snapped up for far less.
As well as the furniture, there's jewellery available worth more than $20,000 a piece.
The couple's home is also unique, built on three levels in the heart of Buderim.
"The home is built on about 1000sqm of land with unrestricted views out to the ocean," Mr Pfeffer said.
"It was built to accommodate the collection.
"The pool room is as big as some houses in the area."
Mr Pfeffer said the collection has already proven popular with potential buyers.
"During the inspection we've already had nearly 200 people through.
"I'd be surprised if we didn't have a couple of hundred at the auction."
He said he had no doubt the items would sell.
"We had a massive auction last year at Rim Rd.
"There the vendors made over $300,000."
The auction will be held at the estate on 13 Fountain Rd, Buderim, from 9am.
