THE trendsetting sub-compact sports utility vehicle, Mitsubishi ASX, has just been relaunched with minor cosmetic changes.

Standing alone in the mini SUV realm a few years back, the ASX now sits among an illustrious crowd including the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai and Subaru XV.

Runout versions of the previous iteration helped propel national ASX sales to number in its segment last month.

But the new look ASX goes on sale today, starting from $25,000 plus on-roads. Petrol model prices have risen just $10, while diesels have climbed $510.

Following in the tyre-prints of its larger SUV siblings, Outlander and Pajero Sport, the ASX has the company's "Dynamic Shield” design gloss black and chrome finishes added to the new-shape bumper and grille.

It also gains a shark fin antenna.

Inside, rear seats gain improved base bolstering on all models while the LS gets new high-grade fabric seat trim with red stitching. Electric heated seat switches on XLS models are relocated to the instrument panel for improved convenience.

Mitsubishi says” a number of functional improvements have been made to the MMCS audio menu structure and graphics to make it quicker and easier to locate the system's features and pair a mobile phone”.

Combination style front fog lamps will replace the daytime running lamps and the key fob design on LS is given a makeover.

"ASX is our number one-selling SUV, and for good reason - it hits all the right markers for small SUV buyers with an abundance of style, features and great packaging,” Mitsubishi Motors Australia executive director of marketing Tony Principe said.

"The new, Dynamic Shield 2017 ASX will make a bold statement with plenty of youthful appeal and new features to help it remain one of Australia's most popular small SUVs.”
