23 charged after probe into hardware store thefts

POLICE have charged 23 people with a total of 28 offences following investigations into thefts from large hardware stores.

The Property Crime Task Force, assisted by the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad, undertook the operation in response to continued thefts, predominantly from Bunnings stores in Maroochydore and Caloundra.

Charges from the operation include stealing, fraud, disqualified driving, unlicensed driving and driving unregistered vehicles.

Sunshine Coast CIB officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said the results should act as a deterrent.

Two vehicles were also impounded as a result of the operation.

A Bunnings spokeswoman declined to comment on the success of the operation.
