Which Coast suburbs top the break-in list?
MAROOCHYDORE, Cotton Tree and Kuluin have topped a list as the worst suburbs for home theft on the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay.
Research by RACQ Insurance shows the post code 4558 was followed by areas including Hervey Bay, Coolum Beach and Peregian Beach.
RACQ executive manager insurance communications Mike Sopinski said the Insurer's 2014 Home Security Index revealed local crime rates affected property buyers' decisions.
"The majority of those surveyed (81%) said crime rates in an area affect their buying choice," Mr Sopinski said.
"More than half (54%) said they would check crimes rate in the local area, and nearly three-quarters (71%) said previous crimes at a property would affect whether they purchased.''
Mr Sopinski said most break-ins are opportunistic and many householders are making it easy for thieves by leaving doors and windows open or unlocked.
Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Cuthbert said police had conducted a number of campaigns and letterbox drops in the Maroochydore, Cotton Tree and Kuluin areas and conducted regular patrols.
