6.1 magnitude quake shakes Uluru and Alice Springs

A MAGNITUDE 6.1 earthquake hit near the centre of Australia just after 6pm yesterday according to Geoscience Australia.

The quake hit at a deptth of 9km and strength estimates indicate damage could have been caused up to 40km away.

Geoscience Australia also estimates shaking could be felt by people up to 507km away, including Uluru, Alice Springs and almost all the way to Maralinga. 

A second, magnitude 3.8, quake hit roughly the same location at 4:36am this morning.
