Christian Caldwell awarded Young Achievers Award
IF SEVEN-year-old track and field athlete Christian Cardwell's recent achievements are anything to go by, the youngster is destined for greatness.
Christian has had an outstanding year to be awarded the Schultz Toomey O'Brien Lawyers Young Achievers Award.
He won a swag of gold medals at the Nordic Sport State Junior Carnival, Caboolture and Strathpine Pentathlons and Caloundra Open Day Carnival.
Christian was also crowned the University of Sunshine Coast Athletics Club's age and junior champion after breaking club records in the 100m, 400m, 500m, discus and 60m hurdles.
The field for the award included state champions and many older and more experienced athletes.
Christian's exceptional skills were recognised when he was presented with the Young Achievers Award at the 91.1 Hot FM studios yesterday.
But his abilities are not confined to the athletic track. The Year 2 student also shows academic prowess.
Sunshine Beach State School principal Jenny Easey said Christian was a model student who set a sterling example for his fellow students.
"His achievements are outstanding and he is a very modest person which will make a fabulous future sports star," she said.
"He is very committed and is well liked by his teachers and fits in very well.
"His class are very proud of him as is everyone else at the school."
