Drug-resistent strain of gonorrhoea has reached Australia

MEDICAL experts are warning of a powerful new strain of gonorrhoea after a tourist in Cairns was found to have the highest drug resistence to the disease ever recorded in Australia.

The patient from central Europe is understood to have contracted the disease in Sydney and the discovery of the case not only prompted a raised alert here in July but has also prompted health officials in New Zealand to issue a health warning to sexual health clinics.
