BUDGET WOES: Prime Minister Tony Abbott has repealed revenue-raising taxes. Aap

LETTER OF THE DAY: Abbott created this problem

READER COMMENT: A NUMBER of readers are loyally repeating the Abbott line about "deficit disasters" and how the Budget is trying to fix an "emergency".

Readers should keep in mind just how many billions of dollars of revenue this government's budget has cut.

The carbon tax raised billions from polluters. All that revenue is gone.

The mining tax repeal handed some $2 billion back to hugely profitable miners.

The dreadful car salary-sacrifice tax changes (which actually asked high-income earners claiming "business" use for a car to fill in a logbook) chopped another couple of billion out of revenue.

It's not rocket science to realise that a budget is about spending and revenue.

This government has increased the deficit dramatically by choosing to cut revenue and then claims there is no alternative but to slash spending.

And to slash spending on the usual Liberal targets - public schools, universities, public hospitals and the poor.

Defenders of this awful, unfair budget need to explain why so much revenue has been cut by the Abbott Government.
