Abbott Government hasn't released submissions on bund wall

THE Abbott Government has not released submissions to its review of the failure of a bund wall on a controversial dredging project in Gladstone Harbour, despite the due date for the review only two weeks away.

Launched by Environment Minister Greg Hunt in late January, the short review is examining engineering and design issues associated with the bund wall which leaked sediment into the harbour in 2011 and 2012.

But despite the deadline for submissions passing a fortnight ago, a spokesman for Mr Hunt could not confirm when the submissions would be publicly released.

The spokesman also would not answer questions related to whether the submissions from stakeholders would actually be released before the review panel reports its findings at the end of March.

He said only that "submissions are still being worked through" and they would be released "in due course", subject to requests for confidentiality.

The inquiry was the latest in a series of investigations by the current and former federal and state governments into the management of the harbour and a 2011 fish disease that coincided with the dredging project.

While those inquiries have largely connected the disease outbreaks with a flood months before, questions remain about the potential links between the disease outbreak and the project.
