All Black star Daniel Carter out of Bledisloe Cup opener

A SMALL crack in his right leg will keep All Blacks star Daniel Carter out of the opening Bledisloe Cup match against Australia in Sydney on August 16.

The champion playmaker only recently returned after seven months on the sidelines following a leg injury sustained in his 100th Test for New Zealand, against England at Twickenham late last year.

Carter started at fly-half against the Waratahs in Saturday night's Super Rugby final against the Waratahs at ANZ Stadium, but left the field in the first half after damaging his leg.

He is expected to be out for several weeks, meaning he will also miss the second Bledisloe Cup match against the Wallabies at Eden Park in Auckland on August 23. His place is expected to be taken by Aaron Cruden.

The All Blacks will attempt to set a new record of 18 consecutive wins when they take on Australia on Saturday week.
