Amazing footage of Aussies in First World War

AS THE 100-year-anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli looms, take a couple of minutes to look over this fascinating montage of footage of Australians in the First World War.

Collected by the Australian War Memorial, the video features footage of soldiers training in their home country before embarking for the other side of the world, as well as excited young nurses about to take on a challenge they could never imagine then.

The video also shows the Anzacs in the trenches, operating large artillery weapons, and carrying and treating the wounded.

Visible throughout is the Australians' trademark sense of humour and willingness to enjoy a joke, even in the darkest of circumstances.
