Armed siege at Brassall home

POLICE are at the scene of an armed siege in a Brassall street, where a man with a handgun has locked himself inside a Heritage Dve property.

The siege situation started around 3pm, when police were notified that the gunman and a woman were in the suburban house.

The woman left the house around 3.30pm and was treated by paramedics for shock symptoms.

Police have since declared an emergency situation in the section of Heritage Dve between Oprah Ct and St Aubins Dve.

Residents in the affected area must remain inside until advised by police, and pedestrians and motorists will be diverted around the blocked-off area.

Police said they believe the handgun is the man's only weapon, and that it appears  the man has locked himself in his own rental property.

Currently, 12 police units, five detectives and a police dog squad are in attendance.

Three ambulances are also on site.
