Assistant tips tough pre-season for Lightning

NETBALL: Lightning's assistant coach Kylee Byrne says she has been overwhelmed with support since joining the new side ahead of the 2017 season.

The former Queensland Fusion coach said starting a new team from scratch in a place like the Coast was a challenge she accepted with glee.

"To see how much it's grown so quickly is incredible,” she said.

"Anyone (at the club) who has had dealings with people on the Sunshine Coast has been so impressed with how we've been embraced.”

HOW THE COAST LURED TWO OF AUSTRALIA'S BEST PLAYERS

She said convincing the team's first two players Caitlin Bassett and Stephanie Wood to join the new franchise was the easy part, the hard work starts on November 1 when pre-season training begins.

Byrne said she looked forward to putting some of Australia's best players through their paces during summer.

"Especially where netball is at at the moment. It's a brand new era,” she said.

"Everyone wants to be a part of something new and that's very exciting.”
