Man accused of baby murder and torture faces court

A MAN accused of torturing and murdering a baby faced Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.

Michael John Humphreys, 28, was charged earlier this year with murder, torture, failing to provide the necessities of life and assault occasioning bodily harm over the death of a month-old girl at Gunalda, north of Gympie, in September, 2012.

His arrest followed an exhaustive 18-month police investigation.

Humphreys, who was not in court yesterday, will have the matter heard again on September 15.
