WHAT a wonderful time of year it is to live or visit the hinterland region with the glorious spring weather enticing everyone to head outdoors and enjoy our absolutely stunning surroundings.

But don't forget while it might be clear and sunny one moment, things can change quickly.

Storm season is almost here and we need to ensure the Sunshine Coast is ready for potentially dangerous weather.

The council this week held a community event to launch RACQ Get Ready Week which doubled as an official opening for the new Woombye SES premises, on-site on Woombye-Palmwoods Rd, Woombye.

Even a small amount of preparation now can potentially save lives, time and money in the event of a natural disaster. I strongly encourage residents to visit the council's Disaster Hub website, which provides all the helpful information you need to be prepared, informed and stay safe.

Tenders close at noon on November 8. See the council's website for further details.

School bus route

KENILWORTH school parents may be interested to know Translink is undertaking a review of the bus route services in the Kidaman Creek Rd area.

Any families now or in the future that require transport in that area can provide their details to Translink.

Grants offered

THE latest round of successful recipients in the council's Community Grants Program have been announced and it's exciting news for a number of groups based in the hinterland area as well as the many members which their projects will benefit.

Congratulations to all recipients, including:

* Montville Chamber of Commerce - $2502 for the Montville Festive Tree Event 2016

* The Creche and Kindergarten Association Limited - $2000 to fund an interactive whiteboard for Maleny Community Kindergarten

* Palmwoods Singers Theatrical Society - $2,775 towards Seniors on Show

* Palmwoods Community and Business Association Inc - $3000 for establishing a community garden in Palmwoods

* Conondale Sport and Recreation Club Inc - $7500 for pool and tennis equipment storage and a trailer

* Sunshine Valley Men's Shed Inc - $6500 for the Stage 2 new shed complex.

I look forward to seeing all of these wonderful projects come to fruition soon.

Memorial maintenance

A QUICK note to advise maintenance works are planned shortly for the Light Horse Memorial at Woombye to ensure the significant statue remains in top shape.

Help shape library

FOUR concept plans to extend the much-loved Maleny Library will be available for community feedback until November 4.

Following extensive community engagement, the need was identified to investigate opportunities to redesign Maleny Library, which is the second-smallest in the library network but one of the busiest.

For further information and to have your say, visit the council's website.
