Tiger shark spotted at popular swimming beach

LIFEGUARDS have confirmed a tiger shark has been spotted near the flags on Bribie Island.

The 3m long tiger shark was spotted at 11.45am by a beachgoer.

A Lifesaving Queensland spokesman confirmed that the beach is currently closed.

"A member of public spotted it, reported to the police and police contacted us," the spokesman said.

The shark was spotted at Red Beach, about 800 metres south of patrolled area.

The beach has been closed as a precaution until further notice.
