Big man leads Celtics to big win in series decider
BASKETBALL: Kelly Olynyk has stepped up in a big way for the Boston Celtics, putting together a career-best performance to lead his team to a thrilling game seven victory over the Washington Wizards.
The Celtics now advance to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. Game one of that series tips off on Thursday at 10.30am (AEST).
Big man Olynyk scored 26 points, while Isaiah Thomas scored 29 points and had 12 assists, as the Celtics used a big fourth quarter to outlast the Wizards 115-105 in the Eastern Conference semis.
Led by Olynyk, the Celtics got a huge lift from their bench, outscoring their Wizards counterparts 48-5. Boston also connected on 11 three-pointers, including eight of 13 in the second half.
Bradley Beal led the Wizards, who were playing their first game seven since 1979, with 38 points, including 24 in the second half. Otto Porter added 20 points and John Wall and Markieff Morris each finished with 18.
But Washington also had 15 turnovers, leading to 17 of the Celtics' points.
