The biggest Peregian Originals concert
Get ready for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest Peregian Originals concerts in the event’s nine-year history, and it will all happen this Sunday afternoon under the sun at Peregian Beach.
If you want to see the whole park dancing like popcorn under the winter sun, this is the Sunday. Tijuana Cartel bring flamenco guitar, slide guitar, a dynamic MC and scratch DJ, and percussion together, forming one of the most exciting and fun bands to emerge in south-eastern Queensland for years.
The amazing dexterity and finesse of lead guitarist, Paul George, provides the jaw-drop factor, but Tijuana Cartel’s live performances offer many textures: a concoction of multi-layered grooves, splashes of Middle Eastern vocals, lilting “Moby-esque” soundscapes, electronic world beats, ethnic percussion and poetic social commentary. And that amazing Spanish-influenced lead guitar!
The Cartel have already solidified their reputation as one of the best acts to play at Peregian Originals. Rumour has it they may be adding a highly-talented trumpet player to the line-up on Sunday.
Rarely do we encounter an earthy and engaging story-teller with a stunning singing voice, who is a brilliant and innovative guitarist, who has the ability to light up any venue with his with and charm.
Rob Longstaff is such a person. Musically, he has a style that encapsulates blues, soul, funk and pop in both acoustic and electric formats.
Rob’s ’slap it, funk it, give it an injection of groove and soul’ approach to the acoustic guitar is unique and irresistible. His voice is genuine soul, powerful and smooth, with highly expressive and often cheeky phrasing. As a songwriter he can bring a tear to the eye one minute, and generate laughter the next with his uncanny sense of humour. Don’t miss the man!
Massie Smith has been steadily making a name for himself on the Sunshine Coast for all the right reasons. After taking 1st place consecutively at several local original song competitions, Massie began gigging around the Sunshine Coast, often performing with his trio.
These days he is in demand in local venues for his stunning natural aptitude for soul music, riveting vocals, and his organic sense of Mauri rhythm. Massie has already written at least three songs many on the Coast feel will go far in the world. Word on the streets is Massie’s new trio line-up is the best yet, and this will be their debut Peregian Originals performance.
Another colourful act will is still to be announced to kick off what is shaping up to be one of the best Originals concerts of the year. Don’t miss it!
