Body of rock fisherman found as family gathers at scene

THE BODY of a missing rock fisherman has been retrieved by water rescue this afternoon at Botany Bay.

It believed to be that of a 79-year-old man who was fishing about a kilometre away at Dover Heights when he went missing.

The family has been notified and returned to the cliff edge near Oceanview Ave where the man would have fallen.

The alarm was sounded last night when another fisherman found a bag on rocks that belonged to the man.

Neighbour 18-year-old Toby Fellas, who lives at the end of Oceanview Ave overlooking the cliff edge, saw it all unfold.

"It's a notorious place on the rocks down here. Only half an hour before the choppers and police arrived, we were saying 'look at the fisherman down there, they are right off the edge' and my friends were saying how dangerous it is," Mr Fellas said.

"We saw a fisherman who was Chinese and wearing dark clothes."

Toby's uncle Adam Fellas said he saw a woman standing in the street physically distraught.

"There was a Chinese woman standing here last night looking distraught. The cops were also going through a red car," he said.

"We were only saying half an hour before how close the fisherman were standing to the edge, and how we couldn't believe they were doing that."
