BREAKING | Boy, 5, falls from second storey school window

A FIVE-year-old boy who fell from a second storey window at school today is in hospital.

An Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed paramedics received a call at about 8.45am and went to Walkervale State School.

The spokeswoman said the boy had no obvious injuries but was in a stable condition and undergoing assessment and observation.

A parent of a girl in the year 1 class said her daughter saw the boy climb on top of a cupboard before falling from the window of the two story building.

She said one minute he was on a cupboard and the next minute he had fallen, the mother said.

"She said the boy didn't want to go to school and his mum was leaving the school when it happened."

"She is a bit sad and upset by it all.

"She said to me 'mum I'm glad you didn't drop me at school because if you saw it you would have died inside.

"The teacher went home and a substitute came in for the day because she was upset."

The women's 15-year-old daughter who dropped her younger sister at school saw it happen also.

"She said she watched him climb out the window, hang there for a minute before falling on to the concrete below," the mother said.

"The windows are push out windows which I guess are big enough for a little child to climb out."

The mother said the students had someone come in and speak with them about the incident.

A letter was sent home to advise parents.
