Boys with relatives after watching dad die on train track

TWO young boys were being cared for by family on Tuesday night after witnessing the shocking death of their father on a Central Coast railway track.

Michael Maloney was reportedly walking his sons back from a trip to the local shops when he was hit by a northbound commuter train at Wyong late Monday.

His sons Mick and Matthew aged just five and six were discovered walking alone down the Pacific Hwy.

Tuggerah Lakes police Inspector Rod Peet told the Daily Telegraph, the boys had told a passing driver "Dad's been hit by a train".

Investigations are continuing but its believed Mr Maloney, 43, had helped his son across the tracks and returned to pick up some groceries which had fallen from his bags.
