RIO 2016: Brazil with shot at redemption against Germans

FOOTBALL: Brazil's footballers can exact some sort of revenge on Germany when the two clash in the Olympics football final on Sunday morning (6.30am AEST).

The Germans defeated Brazil 7-1 the last time the two sides met in the 2014 World Cup semi-final, also in Rio, leading to the sacking of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Two years on, Neymar, who missed that game with injury, and his teammates have the chance for redemption in Rio.

The Barcelona star is in good form at this tournament and scored the fastest Olympic goal in history as the host team defeated Honduras 6-0.

Neymar hit the net after 15 seconds as Brazil dominated from start to finish.

Gabriel Jesus added a quick-fire double before Marquinhos, Luan and then Neymar, with an injury-time penalty, completed the rout.

Germany's victory in the semis was not so clear-cut but it won with goals from Lukas Klostermann and Nils Petersen against Nigeria.

Germany, meanwhile, will meet Sweden in Saturday's women's final.

Men's final, Sunday (6.30am AEST), women's final Saturday (6.30am AEST)
