Police have confirmed a 22-year-old Marian man has died after his car left the road and landed in a railway culvert Monday afternoon.
Police said initial investigations indicated that about 3.20pm a car was travelling north on the Bruce Hwy when it left the roadway and landed in railway culvert. The crash happened near the Nine Mile Creek Overpass.
A 22-year-old Marian man died at the scene.
He was the driver and sole occupant of the car.
Forensic Crash Unit Investigations are continuing.
INITIAL: POLICE are on the scene of what appears to be a fatal traffic crash on the Bruce Hwy north of The Leap.
A police spokesman said initial information suggests a train driver has seen a vehicle which apparently had run off the road, down an embankment and crashed just below a railway overpass.
The train driver found the car about 6pm, with early indications that the crash may have happened hours before.
The spokesman said the driver was believed to be a man in his 20s, but identification and family contact had not yet been established.
Marian Police and emergency services are currently on scene, just north of Silk Mechanical and Vanderfield Mackay near the intersection of Pentecost Rd at Hampden.
