'Snakurettor' problem shuts down Coast car

JUSTIN Barden's ute had been spluttering a few days, but he nearly collapsed from shock when he pulled over in Forest Glen and opened the bonnet to find what may be causing it.

It wasn't oil that was lying over his engine, it was a rather large python.

"I opened the bonnet up and there it was," Justin said.

"I was so shocked, I slammed the bonnet down.

"I thought I imagined it, it was so surreal."

Then he had another dilemma. How was he going to get a mechanic to fix his car when it had a stowaway in the engine?

"I phone my wife and she phoned the snake catcher," Justin said.

Stuart McKenzie, The Snake Catcher 24/7, came to Justin's rescue.

But when he lifted the bonnet, the snake had tried to make itself less conspicuous and had slithered away to a corner in the car.

It was still no problem for Stuart to lift up an remove the snake

Sadly, taking the snake away didn't solve Justin's car troubles and he still had to get a mechanic to find out what was wrong.

Stuart said he had had the "busiest season so far" with call outs from about 700 people across the Sunshine Coast to move snakes.

It wasn't often though they were found curled up under the bonnet of a car.

Stuart also didn't believe there were more snakes around.

"I think it is we hear about it more and we have taken away more of their natural habitat," he said.

As for Justin, he has an incredible story to tell his friends from his original home in the United Kingdom.

"We only have one snake in the UK," he said.
