Car 'incinerated' in arson attack

A CAR has been burned out and a man charged with setting it alight in an incident in the Sunshine Coast hinterland overnight.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch acting officer in charge Tim Byrnes said the car was "incinerated" outside a home in Flinders Ave, Nambour.

"There was a vehicle parked on the street outside a residence," he said.

"It will be alleged that it was set fire to.

"A suspect fled and was located at a nearby residence and arrested."

A 34-year-old Nambour man has been charged with arson and drink driving.

He was granted bail and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 12.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Byrnes said a witness was able to help police with their inquiries.

"Police are grateful to that member of the public for their assistance in solving the matter," he said.
