CareFlight gets flying donation

SUNSHINE Coast Aero Club patron Mayor Mark Jamieson presented a $2500 cheque to CareFlight board member Bill Freeman yesterday following their recent successful Fly it Forward day.

The Fly it Forward day was undertaken by the Sunshine Coast Aero Club as part of the Women in Aviation Week celebrations where the club took more than 70 women in a light plane from the Sunshine Coast Airport to Point Cartwright and return.

Club president Stuart Marshall said for many of the participants it was their first flight in a small aircraft.

"The aim of the event was to encourage women to take up flying. There have been many well-known pioneering female aviators over the years, and as a club we don't want local ladies missing out on the opportunity to learn to fly," he said.

"The funds raised from the day will go to support a very worthwhile local cause in CareFlight, who do a magnificent in our local community."
