LETTER: Challenge for those who hide behind their words

THE word "de jour" is "bigotry or bigot", running a tie with "hate" in the Daily's Wednesday opinion page, five-all. There was also the odd "white supremacist" thrown in.

Previously "racist" was well ahead, with "ignorant" a close second. Not to forget the odd "sinister", "neo-Nazi" and "controversial far-right wing". On Thursday we had a new sophisticated category of "selective bigotry".

Now all of this would add up to something of substance if the name-callers threw out a challenge instead of the Daily pen flack. If Sunshine Coast Safe Communities are your target, say it. However, I am willing to place a bet of a dollar for every name that they could not reason their way out of a soft soufflé.

Dear writer, next time you feel a name coming on, we will consider you a "snivelling coward" if you name-call in the Daily without being willing to face us across the table with reasoned argument.

Come on guys, I challenge you to a public debate about the real evidence, the texts, the actual statistics. Now come out from behind your pens and face us.

President, SCSC
