IT'S sweet news for Sunshine Coast residents with one of the region's favourite chocolate shops dishing up workshops in the new year.
Chocolate Country owner Julie Walters said the iconic Montville store was taking expressions of interest now, and could teach up to 10 people in the one session.
"The course that's running is a one-day course, a four-hour introduction for people who want to work with chocolate,” Ms Walters said.
"The format would be that you come in, and we'll show you the basics so that you can do it at home.”
Mrs Walters said chocolate was a "dark art” but with the help of someone who knew what they're doing, you could master the making.
"We love chocolate and we want to provide people with the tools to make it at home,” she said.
The chocolate school would be opened on site after Julie and her husband Paul expanded their store.
"People often come into the shop and say, 'do you run classes to show people how to make chocolate?'” she said.
"We've never really had the room to do it, but we're in the process of expanding into a new part of the building which will gives us the space.
"The chap that will be running the courses has been working with chocolate for the last 40 years.
"He's a pastry chef and has put the course together in an engaging manner, and it should be fun.
"Because if chocolate isn't fun then what's the point?
"It will be an enjoyable, relaxing way to learn about how to do chocolate at home.”
Mrs Walters said they would be working with ganache, praline, liquors and various other fillings.
It will have state of the art facilities including tempering machines from Europe.
She said it would be held every second Saturday and would cost $140 each with everything provided.
"There has been a lot of interest so far though, so it may be that we're running them every weekend,” Mrs Walters said.
"We've also had schools inquire about running mid-week lessons for students.
"We're flexible and can work with individual groups.
"At the end of the day you learn a new skill and get to take chocolate home.”
Mrs Walters said the store, which had locals and tourists alike flock to the hinterland since 2003, was known for its truffles.
She said they were now ramping up production for Christmas treats with chocolate reindeer taking over the store.
A pop-up shop at the Sunshine Plaza will be selling Christmas treats from now until early January, outside of Myer.

- Fire Mountain: A dark chilli chocolate ganache coated in a dark chocolate, topped with a red lava flow decoration
- Lemon Cup: A milk chocolate cup containing zingy white chocolate ganache, with a candied lemon peel decoration
- Milk Salted Caramel: A milk chocolate shell with creamy caramel and crushed sea salt crystals
