WORK is well and truly underway at Majestic Cinemas in Nambour.
Construction started on the cinema refurbishment, which includes four new theatres, more than a month ago and C-Square placemaker Lisa Fry said there was under a month of work left until the new cinemas could be enjoyed by the public.
"We've had RCQ constructions, who are based in Maroochydore, working hard and they've been fantastic to deal with," she said.
"Even though they've had some issues with steel fabrication they've managed to stick to schedule so it's all on track for the four cinemas to be up and running by Christmas."
Ms Fry said the refurbishment had been a long time coming and she was excited to see the finished product extremely soon.
"It's been a long time in getting the plans all sorted and everything structurally ok so it's been fantastic to finally see it starting to happen," she said.
Ms Fry wanted to reassure and reiterate to residents that movies were still continuing to show at the cinemas throughout the construction work in one operational cinema.
She also wanted to stress that the large renovated auditorium would still be able to host live events upon completion.
"I want to make sure people are aware that the 360 seat cinema will be able to host live events and be able to be used as an event venue with a stage just like what had been there previously," she said.
"Some people are unsure and think that this won't be the case but it will definitely still be a venue for live events."
When the cinemas open in December, more than 150 movie screenings will be offered each week across the four cinemas which includes one large auditorium, one large cinema and two smaller cinemas.
Majestic Cinemas manager Michelle Weir said she believed the refurbished cinema would be great for Nambour.
"Nambour will have the ability to showcase a wider range of entertainment options than ever before," she said.
"Majestic Cinemas are building the cinema complex that Nambour deserves and the end result will be a modern, state of the art cinema facility with full disabled access to all cinemas and an overall improved facility for all cinema goers."
