Clive Palmer hits out at 'ruthless' conservatives

Clive Palmer has hit out against what he has called an "overall campaign" against his political party and its members, accusing the "conservative side" of politics of ruthlessness.

Mr Palmer, who was a life member of Queensland Liberal National Party until late 2012 when he famously fell out with the state's government, said he unaware of Palmer United Party Senator Jacqui Lambie's comments about China because he had been travelling for two days.

But he said there was too much focus on him and the PUP senators, claiming it was part of a campaign to discredit his party because of its voting power in the Senate.

"I think there has been an overall campaign in Australia against us and our three senators," he told Fairfax Radio 4BC.

"You have to remember the Senate is made up of about 70 senators but all you ever hear about is me and Jacqui Lambie or somebody because the powers that be are upset that they haven't got control of the Senate and we have the balance of power.
