I HAVE to say that Greg Pitman's opinion of our airport (10/11) made me smile. He mentions five airports which he says are better than our lovely little airport.
So to give a different prospective here is my opinion based on having taken off or landed (or both) of 153 airports some many times. Secondly I have flown 136 airlines, most since 1984 and I have visited 121 countries.
Many times coming home after four to eight weeks away I have come back into Australia via Melbourne or Sydney so that I could see my children and no matter how great airports are these days, the best flight of all has always been landing into Maroochydore.
He complains about the security, bag searches, and double checks. My experience of those somewhat trying things here has always been done with courtesy and good humour. Yes, it is a bit frustrating but try any American airport.
The N.T.S.B. people are, if not rude, then very off-hand and frequently it equates to cattle mustering, with long queues and Americans complaining.
I love my little airport, clean, tidy, and friendly. So what if one is sent through to the departure lounge to wait. You can still get a cup of coffee.
At two small Asian airports there was a notice just inside the door which said 'Please check your guns before boarding'. That's flying today.
