"HATERS will always hate”.
That's the message from Sunshine Coast bodybuilder Jay Acharya after he was accused of steroid use by some Sunshine Coast Daily readers.
After the Daily yesterday published a story which gave an insight into Acharya's diet and training regime, some questioned whether he was taking steroids to enhance his physique.
It's an accusation he strongly denied.
"No, never (have I taken steroids) and that's honest,” he said.
"I weigh in at 57-59kg on stage. The federations I have competed in are all drug tested and natural.
"I wouldn't go that way. Nothing against the athletes who do use it, they still work hard to achieve their physiques but I have never used steroids.”
Acharya, who is a vegetarian, said he had to eat up to 45-50 egg whites per-day to get his required 220-240g of protein in preparation for a competition.
But some weren't convinced.
"Seriously? And who's his nutrition advisor Rocky? A better question is who supplies his steriods,” one reader said.
Acharya laughed off the comments, while friends from within the fitness industry and average punters leapt to his defence.
"For stage (shows) I weigh in less than a lot of girls,” he laughed.
"Usually with steroids people are very dense and heavy in terms of weight.
"As a professional athlete the best I can do is stick to my professionalism.
"To me it's a laugh now. I guess today we live in a world where people are just not wanting to see anyone else succeed.”
