Contamination possibility for Stumers Creek

COOLUM Beach locals were shocked to find termite baits in Stumers Creek at Coolum Beach.

A passer-by noticed an estimated nine baits in the water near Park Crescent and Barnes Lane early in the morning.

He said a local told him they had not been there the previous day.

Photographs showed an area of discolouration around each of the baits.

It is not known if the baits caused any serious contamination.

Locals are known to fish and swim further downstream in the creek.

Members of the public removed some of the baits themselves early in the morning.

A Sunshine Coast Council spokesman said officers attended and removed four baits but no further information was provided.
