Council’s spree for CBD roads

HOMES in the heart of Maroochydore are being purchased to make way for the new CBD.

The Sunshine Coast Council has purchased one property in Maud St and is "negotiating" with the owners of two others.

The purchased properties will allow the council to construct an extension of Dalby St which will "create a major transport access to the Maroochydore City Centre".

Nearly two weeks ago the Sunshine Coast Daily revealed the council had bought eight properties along Aerodrome Rd, also to make way for the planned redevelopment of Horton Park into the new city "heart".

The council will look for permission at next week's ordinary meeting to buy property in Evans St, Maroochydore to upgrade the road from two lanes to four lanes to connect Maroochydore Rd and Maroochy Boulevard.

"Intersections at Maroochydore Rd, Primary School Ct, Ridge Rd, School Rd and Millwell Rd will also be upgraded," a council spokeswoman said.

The community is invited to provide feedback on the Evans St upgrade project by 5pm, Friday, March 28. Visit www.sunshinecoastcouncil.qld.gov.au.
