Couple bashed in home invasion

A 28-YEAR-OLD couple was left battered and bruised - one with a serious head injury - following a violent home invasion just north of Gympie on the weekend.

Gympie police are investigating the apparent burglary gone wrong on Ellis Rd at Bells Bridge where they believe two people entered a house about 1.30am on Saturday.

Police media said yesterday one of the intruders was armed with a metal bar, which was used to hit the male occupant of the house over the head several times.

The woman was hurt when she tried to intervene.

The intruders then stole a blue 2013 Ford XR6 Falcon sedan with Queensland registration 842 TFI and fled from the scene, police said.

The car was found torched on Cedar Pocket Rd at Cedar Pocket at 5.50am that morning.

The male victim was taken to Gympie Hospital with a serious head injury.

The woman suffered lacerations and bruising to her fore

arm and was also taken to hospital.
