Court relaxes bail decision for accused drug trafficker

A FITNESS supplements business owner accused of selling $39,000 of cocaine, methamphetamine and ecstasy to undercover police has had his strict bail conditions relaxed so he can travel to Brisbane.

Mikhail Pierre Shawn Faria, 27, was charged on August 11 with three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs and 13 counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between March and August last year at various places on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

He successfully applied in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday to have bail conditions that restricted him to staying within a 50km radius of his Pelican Waters home and Gympie business, MF Nutrition, extended to 100km.

His defence lawyer Sebastian Jennings said his client needed to be able to travel to Brisbane for events like health and fitness expos as well as for charity work.

The court heard Faria had been living in the back of his Gympie shop as a part of his initial bail conditions.

His bail conditions were changed to allow him to live at Gympie on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, spending the rest of his time at Pelican Waters.

A curfew restricting his movement at night was also lifted.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Stephens said Faria had agreed to the strict bail conditions when arrested but only four weeks later was having them altered.

Magistrate John Hodgins noted the case would be before the courts for "a long time" and that Faria was not expected to live in the back of his shop for that amount of time.
