Heather Flack's final moments of life after Bruxner crash

THE FINAL moments of Heather Flack's life following a head-on crash on the Bruxner Highway at Casino in 2012 were recounted by emergency services workers at Lismore District Court yesterday.

The 62-year-old Casino grandmother died of blunt force trauma injuries following a collision with a black Subaru sedan driven by former Lennox Head Chamber of Commerce president Louise Owen on March 20.

Ms Owen is charged with dangerous driving occasioning death - drive in a manner dangerous, over the smash.

Paramedics Kate Stuart, Sally Butler and Kim Hanlon, and the first police officer on the scene, Senior Constable Christopher Brien, told of the carnage and conditions of those involved.

All four witnesses said the Bruxner Highway was littered with debris and car parts after the crash.

Mr Hanlon said when he approached the Subaru, Ms Owen was "alert and orientated but she was in severe pain and traumatised".

Ms Butler told the court Ms Owen said: "What happened? Did someone hit me, or did I hit someone?"

Noticing first aid equipment around the Subaru, Mr Hanlon was told by Ms Owen she was a first aid instructor who was going to deliver a course at Casino.

After checking Ms Owen's condition, Ms Stuart said she decided to remain with Mrs Flack, who was semi-conscious and trapped in her silver Ford sedan.

Ms Stuart placed Mrs Flack in a neck collar, administered oxygen and connected her to a heart monitor.

As volunteers from the Casino Volunteer Rescue Association worked frantically to free Mrs Flack, Ms Stuart said she lost consciousness and stopped breathing, just as she was released.

The court heard all efforts were made to resuscitate Mrs Flack, without success.

Sen Cnst Brien told the court he heard an ambulance officer say "I will call it. Time of death is 3.45pm"

The trial continues on Monday.
