A TURTLE named Merlin, sea stars and sea cucumbers have put a smile on the faces of sick kids at Nambour General Hospital.

The charity Merlin's Magic Wand was celebrating its sixth birthday yesterday when it brought the sea creatures to the children's ward in association with Sea Life Mooloolaba.

Hospital school room teacher Janet Shaw said the visit was a great distraction for the kids, who were often going through tough medical procedures.

"Today provides a bit of a diversion, out of their beds and out into the sunshine," she said.
