Darren in fine voice for wedding surprise
AS far as wedding crashers go, this has to be one of the best.
Coolum singer and songwriter Darren Percival showed up unannounced at the wedding of two former Sunshine Coast lovebirds over the weekend.
Just as Richard and Bridget French finished exchanging vows, the 2012 The Voice runner-up walked into the room with his ukulele and begun playing their favourite song, You Are The One.
Mr Percival wrote it for his daughter Willow Rose.
He performed it at the Woodford Folk Festival a couple of years ago.
Richard and Bridget were there to hear it and fell in love with the song.
Two weeks ago, the former Ms Chenoweth wrote to Mr Percival to share their story and to invite him to perform at their wedding.
"It was a moving email. They said they were so moved by it and it's part of their story now," Mr Percival said. "So I drove down and I sang it.
"Only the bride and her bridesmaid knew I was going to be there.
"I walked in with my ukulele, walked down the aisle and sang the whole song. The groom looked shocked and the audience ended up singing along."
He said it was an honour to be a part of their special day.
"It was a beautiful surprise. I got all choked up at the end because people were crying. The bride burst into tears straight away."
Mr Percival said he did his best to attend as many events as he could from those who have written to him.
"For me it's about how people are sharing the story and what they want me to be a part of," he said.
"It was just really beautiful. The thing I love the most about my job is getting to do that stuff."
Mr Percival is currently working on his new album, due out May 2.
