They're parasites: Dempsey hits out at abusers
POLICE Minister Jack Dempsey has hit out at people who physically or verbally abuse emergency services staff, labelling them "parasites".
His comments follow an incident near Doonan on Sunday night when ambulance officers were abused by a man involved in crash.
Police said the man was knocked unconscious in the accident but became abusive when he woke and had to be restrained.
Mr Dempsey warned "strong action" would be taken against anyone guilty of such behaviour.
"People who do this I would classify as parasites living in our community," he said.
