Generous anonymous donor helps keep food store in Pomona

WHILE this week's rain stopped food supplies to Pomona Food Connection store, a mystery donor has ensured the service will be continued.

The anonymous person, who has been donating $200 a week since before Christmas, is not alone. Food Connection founder Pastor Joy Cross praised the community for its support, particularly churches that had collected food items and children from the Seventh Day Adventist church, who had put away 50 cents a week each to make a substantial donation.

The store, located in Pomona CBD, opened last October to ease increasing financial pressures on the family budget.

Twice a week the store offers boxes of quality groceries, fruit and vegetables for $30 a box. The food is picked from food banks in Brisbane and taken to Gympie. From there Joy and her helpers transport the food to Pomona.

At the store the food is stored in fridges donated by the local Lions Club and there are a variety of ways to access it.

"You can drop in here, or you can call us and we will deliver," Joy said.

"Otherwise you can park your car and pick up food from the rear of the building."

While Joy's dream is to help others, she's realistic enough to be mindful of the store's running costs.

"We still have the store's bills to be paid and I appreciate all assistance," she said.
