Dope makes you dumber: study

IT'S official. Scientists have found a link between regular cannabis use, memory loss and drops in IQ scores, especially for people who start smoking the drug in their teens.

A study of more than 1000 New Zealanders revealing the link was the strongest evidence yet, University of Queensland's Professor Wayne Hall said.

"This prospective study greatly strengthens the case for regular cannabis use being a cause of cognitive decline by mid-adulthood (age 38) in young people, especially who began to use cannabis in their teens and who persistently used throughout adolescence and into adulthood," he said.

"Its findings add to the case for preventive public health education to reduce adolescent initiation and use of cannabis."
