Emre Can scores stunner as Reds consolidate third spot
"I HAVE never scored a goal like that."
No, Emre Can, you haven't.
In fact, not many in world football can lay claim to such acrobatic brilliance.
When Lucas Leiva lofted a ball into the box in first half stoppage time, there was nothing on for Can.
He had no right to score.
Instead, he swivelled and swung a leg up to produce a stunning goal of the season contender. The faces of Watford fans said it all.
"That is the best goal I've ever scored," said Can post game, as Liverpool sealed a vital 1-0 win.
"I saw the space and I ran behind and my first thought was that I wanted to head it, then I didn't think too much.
"But the most important thing was three points after knowing what happened yesterday. It was a big game for us.
"Everything is in our hands. If we win the three games we are in the Champions League. We are confident. If we perform how we can perform then we can do it."
The result moves third-placed Liverpool three points clear of fourth-placed Manchester City on the English Premier League ladder, although City has a game in hand.
The Reds will be sweating on the fitness of Philippe Coutinho after he appeared to suffer a dead leg against Watford.
The midfielder went down in the fifth minute under a challenge from Watford's Adrian Mariappa but was unable to shake off the knock and was replaced by Adam Lallana in the 13th minute.
