Farmers back new QLD planning laws

FARMING groups are backing new Queensland planning laws that encourage gas and mining firms to make a deal with landholders instead of battling in court.

The new legislation creations four protected areas - residential, agricultural, environmental and cropping.

When a resources company wants to develop in these areas, they must now seek approval from farmers in order to gain government planning approval.

This stops companies from applying directly to the Land Court if a property owner refuses to make a deal.

The changes are being supported by AgForce Queensland and Queensland Farmers' Federation.
