Fashion for a good cause

HIGH fashion and animal rescue don't have a lot in common normally, however the two will come together for a charity fashion parade in Caloundra next month.

University of the Sunshine Coast Public Relations students have teamed up with 4 Paws Animal Rescue to create a charity-based fashion parade showcasing local boutiques for a night aiming to raise awareness and funding for animal refuge activities.

The fashion show will showcase designs from local fashion boutiques including Alterior Motif, Fable and True, Blossom, La Vida, Orange Sherbet and Sugoi. Garments and other fashion items will also be available for sale on the evening.

Sunshine Coast artist Ziggy Alberts will also perform live entertainment on the night.

The fashion parade is part of a third-year public relations event course.

USC student Caitlin Ryan said Fashion for a Cause is a great concept to generate community support and raise awareness of 4 Paws Animal Rescue, a Sippy Downs organisation that takes in abandoned and surrendered cats and dogs.

"We think this is a great way to promote 4 Paws and educate the community of the extraordinary efforts the small team of dedicated volunteers do day in and day out," she said.

4 Paws Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation that began in 2005 and has since rescued and re-homed 3000 animals. Their monthly veterinarian bills often cost in excess of $5000.

"We are hoping the fashion show raises enough money to keep the organisation on its feet for as long as possible but also remind people out there that adopting is a great option when looking for a new pet," Caitlin said.

"Local fashion boutiques and Universal Hair Studios are also very enthusiastic to showcase their recent designs and to offer their support in the battle for animal protection.

"We have been absolutely blown away by the community help we have received so far and can't wait to see everyone there on the night".

The event is at the Events Centre, Caloundra on October 12, from 6.30pm.

Ticket prices start at $22 and are available online from or call 5491 4240.
