Federal Ministers coming to town for Nambour activation plan
FEDERAL government ministers will visit Nambour today to see a presentation of the town's activation plan by the Sunshine Coast Council, the Nambour Alliance and LNP candidate Ted O'Brien.
Minister for Cities and the Built Environment Jamie Briggs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister, Senator James McGrath will be given a run-down on how local authorities plan to revitalise Nambour's CBD.
Five years in the making, the Activation Plan highlights five specific projects to be carried out by locals, with Sunshine Coast Council playing an "enabling" role.
A 14-page plan, complete with project aspirations, objectives and possible actions is now available for public viewing.
But Nambour Alliance board member Peter Clark said he doesn't care what the plan looks like, as long as it gets done.
"About five years ago the Nambour Alliance realised there was town visions in a lot of other centres, but Nambour didn't have one," he said.
"Our current president Tony Vella was instrumental in developing that.
"We were able to present our vision to the Mayor, and to his credit, he invited us back and said 'we need to do something for Nambour'.
"The Council allocated $30,000 to put a working group together over 12 months to assist Nambour to develop as the rest of the Coast was developing."
Council fully endorsed the Activation Plan last month and has made room in the budget for funding allocations moving forward.
"That for me is the exciting part," Mr Clark said.
The next step for the working group is to appoint a project officer to oversee the plan's implementation.
"From what I hear, there are numerous candidates applying," Mr Clark said.
